Helping writers become bestselling authors

Random Acts of Kindness: Final Day!

May 20, 2012 by BECCA PUGLISI

What a fantastic week of Random Acts of Kindness for Writers. I have seen hundreds of RAOK this week, ranging from Twitter and FB  shout-outs to blog posts detailing how much someone has contributed and supported during the walk down the writer’s road. Gifts of time and thoughtfulness have been exchanged, but for me the best part is seeing the reaction of  the person blitzed by a RAOK and how special it made them feel. (I was a recipient of some kindness and it really helped pick me up after some bad news, so my heartfelt thanks to everyone who send a few smiles my way!)

So way to go, each and every person who contributed to the success of Random Acts Of Kindness for Writers, with a very big thank you going out to the industry sponsors who so kindly offered gifts to be won each day this week. It was wonderful to have you involved.

Speaking of wonderful, Scrivener is hanging out with us again, making sure writers know how much they are valued by the industry. Their generosity at donating software for each day of the RAOK event says a lot about who they are. Also joining us is Scribe’s Forge, a cornucopia of learning run by fantasy authors Tracy and Laura Hickman.

As we’ve seen all week, a kind word or small gesture can mean so much. If you would like to steal our badge and surprise someone with an official RAOK, please add your blog to our link list at the bottom of this post!

Today, you have 3 chances to win, so read on!

RAOK Gift #1: TWO Scrivener Software packages (1 PC, 1 Mac)

Scrivener is billed as ‘your complete writing studio’ and it really is. This software, developed by a writer for writers, is the complete package. How many notebooks do you fill up as you research, brainstorm, outline, create character sketches and finally draft and revise your novel? Well, flipping through that stack of paper or set of binders is a thing of the past with Scrivener. Organize, storyboard, make notes and research all in the same place, and best of all, access it all as you write. The index card and cork board system is nothing short of brilliant.

Simply put, Scrivener is a writer’s best friend. I love how they evolve to serve writers in this new world of publishing, like using the compile feature to export manuscripts to Kindle or epub formats! You can even download a free trial to see if this tool fits your working style!

RAOK Gift # 2: Ultimate Writer’s Course with Best-selling Fantasy Author Tracy Hickman

Okay, I have to do the gushy thing for a minute here, because this is TRACY HICKMAN, people! I fell in love with his Dragonlance series in high school, and my boyfriend then (husband now!) bought me the entire series for a graduation gift. I later devoured the Death Gate Cycle, one of my all time favorite fantasy series. Tracy has gone on to create many more fantasy series as well as the Ravenloft Adventure game with wife and author Laura Hickman.
Now Tracy and Laura are passing on their knowledge through Scribe’s Forge, teaching online courses, workshops and webinars. The Ultimate Writer’s Course is the jewel of their offerings–this is not one webinar, or even a set of webinars. No, one lucky writer today is going to strike gold and win a YEAR’S WORTH of Webinars, participate in monthly live chats, and workshop their writing with Tracy & other course participants.
I’ll just wait for you to pick your jaw off the floor.
This is an ULTIMATE Random Act of Kindness gift. Whoever wins this will have a unique opportunity to learn from two seasoned pros and dramatically reshape their writing. You can read the full details of this amazing RAOK gift here. Also, Tracy and Laura have an offer available right now for all writers–a FREE Webinar! Aren’t these two amazing? Head on over and sign up now!

So…want to win these wonderful RAOK Gifts? Of course you do! Enter this FORM and consider spreading a bit of kindness in the Writing Community. A small gesture can mean so much. Please note this drawing will be closed at 5 PM Eastern time so get your entries in asap.

While you’re here, don’t forget to grab The Bookshelf Muse RAOK gift–a FREE PDF in the sidebar on Emotion Amplifiers (sidebar). Listed are 15 entries that will help you describe the body language, thoughts and visceral reactions of  conditions like Pain, Attraction, Illness, Stress, Exhaustion, Boredom and more!

Giveaways are now closed–thank you so much for supporting Random Acts of Kindness for Writers!

Oh my gosh, I loved the Dragonlance series too. Tracy came to Australia on tour at one point and I travelled an hour to meet him and get one of his books signed. It was awesome.

That’s all SO COOL! I would totally be entering for the webinars, except my schedule is never free Friday evenings. 🙁 I’ll definitely be checking out Tracy Hickman though. Best-selling fantasy author? Yes!

Hi Angela & Becca, the RAOK provided me with the op to connect with many writers & bloggers. I have gleaned a lot from them all. It has been an amazing week. I am so happy for both of you. Thank you for letting us all be a part of the launch.
I am waiting patiently for my copy of the Emotion Thesaurus to (walk) its way to me in Geneva:-)

Thank you so much for this special week! I not only passed on a RAOK (amazon gift card) to a long-time writer friend who has been through a series of rough times, including a stroke & husband’s job loss, but through your posts this week, I’ve found so many new writing tools that I’d never heard of before. Thanks for the push to reach out and also for the blitz of links and seeing everyone else’s RAOK! So inspiring. 🙂

I’ve been recommending your site for some time now to my other writer friends. Your sidebar is /so/ helpful for when I’m stuck in a scene or trying to remember what else goes on in the frozen tundra or the like. These RAOK giveaways are so cool! And I will definitely be buying your book. Such a great resource!
