Thank You From WHW: an Emotion Amplifiers eBook Gift

Hi everyone! Becca and I have wrangled together a small gift for you: Emotion Amplifiers, the popular PDF companion to The Emotion Thesaurus, is now an ebook. Even better, it’s free.

Emotion Amplifiers High ResAs writers, we all understand just how important emotion is. Commanding it well means creating authentic characters who share their raw, powerful stories with readers, pulling them in deep and making them care.

But how do we push characters to the edge of an emotion? How do we draw out every last drop of tension that’s possible? The answer is to amplify their emotions through whatever means we can, applying pressure that tests limits, causes instability or even leads a character toward rash behavior, bad decisions, and ultimately, mistakes.

Emotion Amplifiers profiles fifteen different conditions (such as Pain, Exhaustion, Attraction and Addiction) that can help complicate a situation, causing emotional volatility and stress. Like The Emotion Thesaurus, each entry lists the Physical Signals, Mental Responses and Internal Sensations a character might experience while in the throes of an Emotional Amplifier.

We hope this ebook makes a strong addition to your virtual bookshelf, and helps you find creative and compelling ways to add complication to your hero’s rocky path toward his goal. Snag your copy (or gift it to another writer!) here:

Happy writing, and thank you so much for all your kind support of us over the years.

~  Angela & Becca

(PSSST! Shares are always appreciated, and holy bananas, if you already have Emotion Amplifiers, we would absolutely love it if you could take the time to review it!)

  11. R. E. Hunter says:

    Hi Angela and Becca,

Thanks for the gift. Just a thought on the Amazon price, would it help to have it available in mobi format on Smashwords? Could it be that they’re ignoring it because it’s epub-only? I reported it anyway.

    • I don’t think that’s why they are ignoring it, especially since B & N is probably their biggest competitor and they use epub. I’m guessing it’s because it’s Christmas. We tried waiting as long as we could for free to kick, in, but then finally decided to just let it loose. 🙂 We figure if people keep reporting it, it will drop as soon as Christmas Craziness calms down 🙂 Thanks so much for reporting it!

  12. Heidi Tighe says:

Bought it! I do have one question, though. I bought the pdf of TET a long time ago. I think I paid four or five bucks. Recently, my computer totally crashed and I lost it all. is it possible to re-download it?

  13. Love your books. I reported it to Amazon.

  14. Mary Terrani says:

Thank you so much for this. I have the three other books on my shelf. They are invaluable!

  15. Sounds like a great addition!!

  17. I love The Emotion Thesaurus, so of course I had to grab this. Thank you! Going to share it with all my writer peeps.

  18. That is just what I need! The Polaris Project looks like a wonderful charity.

  19. JC Martell says:

Couldn’t wait – just got the kindle version. Thanks so much for another valuable contribution to my toolbox!

  20. Keli Gwyn says:

Wow! What a wonderful resource to add to my collection. Thank you!

I have printed versions of The Emotion Thesaurus, The Positive Trait Thesaurus and The Negative Trait Thesaurus in my desk’s hutch within easy reach as I write. It won’t surprise me if I wear out The Emotion Thesaurus and have to replace it at some point since I use it so often. It’s a must-have resource on any novelist’s shelf.

Is there any chance you’ll offer Emotion Amplifiers in print any time soon? While I read some novels on my Kindle, I prefer paper copies of my reference books and would gladly pay to have a copy of this one to set beside its pals.

    • Hi, Keli. I’m happy to hear that your Emotion Thesaurus is getting a good workout ;). As for Emotion Amplifiers, we don’t have plans for a print copy of that one. It was such a small collection that it didn’t warrant the time and cost involved to publish a print version. Sorry!

  21. Sam Taylor says:

I was so excited to hear about this new resource! I have done my duty and reported the lower price to Amazon. (If we push with enough weight, we can get them to change!) But I may end up buy a copy anyway. I need the precious. Thanks for all you do to help us writers out!

  22. You two are so wonderful! I purchased it from Amazon and also reported the lower price. Thank you so much for all you do to help authors.

Wishing you a season filled with all you hold precious.

  23. Matt Ramirez says:

    Awesome!!! You guys rock!!

Sorry to hear Amazon still hasn’t cooperated ;(

  24. I have to pinch myself, Angela. Sometimes I’m just so dang lucky. And the day I met you at the Calgary convention, When Words Collide, “Hallelujah!” Thank you for the “Emotions Amplifiers” gift. I hope to see you again at the WWC 2015. Already signed up and looking forward to the best writer’s convention. Merry Christmas to your team, and your family. Blessings.

    • No way, I am the lucky one! I get to meet such amazing folks like you each and every day! I need to grab my ticket for WWC–just saw a reminder on twitter yesterday and was like “DOH! I have to buy my pass still!”

Hope you have a fantabulous holiday, Feather!

  25. Mandie Stevens says:

I picked it up on Amazon. $.99 is super cheap. Thank you!

  26. Thanks! Just bought the Kindle version. Love your posts.

    • Thanks Jennifer! I hope you find it comes in handy. We blasted Amazon with reports of free, but I guess this time of year they aren’t paying as much attention. Hopefully it goes to free soon as it was our intent to have it free across the board. 🙂

  27. Hi Angela & Becca! Thank you for sharing your Emotional Amplifier. I have several of your books. All wonderfully helpful to my writing. Happy Holidays!

  28. Happy Christmas inspirational ladies, thank you for all that you do.

  29. Beth L Barnett says:

You are new to me but love that you support the Polaris Project and others. How very generous of you.

  30. :Donna says:

You ladies are the BEST! 🙂 I actually purchased mine through Amazon when I first became aware of it and I’m sorry they’re still not lowering it. Of course, though you’re generously offering it (and all your amazing posts here) for free, I’m sure EVERYone would agree that 99 cents is not steep 😉

How wonderful it is that you’ve donated that nice chunk of $ to the Polaris Project, too. As do many things in this world, the thought of human trafficking is something I have trouble wrapping my head around.

I’d jump on the critique opportunity, too, if only I had something to get critiqued! Thank you, gals, for all you do all year long 🙂

    • Sorry you had to buy it! We delayed announcing it in hopes that Amazon would drop to free, but I think they are just too busy to deal with price drops right now perhaps. I hope it drops soon–thanks for reporting it for us!

  31. What a present!!! WOW! You guys are just so loving and giving. You’re THE best! HUG, HUG, HUG! Merry Christmas.

  32. Dawn Allen says:

Thank you!! I am so proud of writers like you who give back and support the community of writers. I’ve been out of touch as I’m President of Oklahoma Writer’s Federation this year and it’s kept me hopping. I wanted to bring you all to Oklahoma but alas my budget kept me closer to home. I just wanted to make sure you knew how much we all adore and respect both of you. Have a joyous holiday season.

    • Dawn, that is a huge responsibility and accomplishment! You go, woman! How we would love to visit. Maybe someday it will happen. I can only imagine the work involved in organizing all you do, and think it’s wonderful you are giving of your time like this. Happy holidays!

  33. Hello Angela and Becca!

It’s been a while since I’ve commented here, but I assure you, I get all your posts in my email. I just want to thank you both for your generosity. You have such giving hearts! Not only with this, but with the knowledge you share every week. I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas. 🙂

  34. You ladies glow with holiday spirit all year long! Thank you!

  35. Fiona McLaren says:

    Hi Ladies,

I wanted to congratulate you on the wonderful support of the Polaris Project. You girls are an inspiration. Your books are certainly going to be in my stocking fillers this year!

    • Thanks Fiona! It is a great charity. The idea of human trafficking…I don’t even know where to begin other than it fills me with sadness and shame as a human being. I thank the universe there are organizations like this standing against it.

  36. Audrey King says:

This is the best gift I’ve received all year! Thank you.
