ONE STOP FOR WRITERS®

OSLogoFWhat’s in your Writing Toolbox?

Becca and I are pleased to bring you another resource from Writers Helping Writers®—this one, in partnership with Lee Powell, the creator of Scrivener for Windows.

One Stop For Writers® is a library experience like no other, saving you time as you plan, research, and write by having all of your favorite writing resources and tools in one place.

A powerhouse of writing information, One Stop is the new home for our iconic Descriptive Thesaurus Collection, which has been expanded and enhanced to offer even greater value to writers. Fully searchable and cross-linked for easy navigation, you can look up what you need quickly and then slip right back into the writing flow.

Our unique descriptive databases include:

Fans of our bestselling reference books will be happy to know our volumes are also part of the site. In fact, in some cases, One Stop has expanded on book entries, like the extra 15 entries for The Emotion Thesaurus.

You will also find unique Templates and Worksheets to help you build deep, realistic characters, settings that resonate with symbolic and emotional meanings, and much more. We also feature a one-of-a-kind Idea Generator that will help you puzzle out your character’s Emotional Wound, Areas of Internal Growth (Character Arc), Likable Qualities and Behaviors, Hobbies, Secrets, and Fears. In addition, you’ll be able to explore ideas for Story Complications and other aspects of fiction.

features-and-tools_os_1One Stop For Writers also contains amazing structure tools, such as the innovative Story Map which helps writers master character arc and story structure. Users can plan their novels to align with one of 3 arcs (change, static, or failed) step-by-step, and then view the stages and turning points of all 3 Acts in an easy to follow visual map!

And if you are a real planner, try taking Scene Maps for a spin. We’ve got two different templates to flow with what type of planner you are–die hard structure guru or more laid back. Either way, we’ve gathered all the important elements of a scene, and you can include however much structure as you like.

Maybe you aren’t a planner as much as you are a pantser. Don’t worry, we’ve thought of you too. Timelines allows you total flexibility to collect as much or as little detail about your novel as you like. And, because all our scene and timeline tools can be reordered, they make terrific story-boarding tools. Just drag the boxes into a new order, and the site saves everything for you.

If you are building a world from the ground up or just want to keep track of the important details for your novel or series, our one-of-a-kind Worldbuilding Tool will help you through custom surveys on all aspects of world creation, starting at the Solar System level and working down to the People and Creatures in your story, and the Cities, Towns, and Realms part of the Planet they inhabit. You can even dig deeper and plot out the Groups and Factions your intelligent races may belong to, and even the Sacred or Magical Items they may use in their practices. Our surveys are extensive and you can add your own questions to completely customize your worldbuilding.

Our goal is to help you become stronger writers, and to that end, we have many Tutorials and Lessons to help. Stop in some time and see what’s new, grab your favorite Checklist or Tip Sheet to share online or use in a blog post, or sign up for our One Stop update newsletter, so you are always first to know when our site is upgraded.

  1. What is the URL for the Occupation Thesaurus. The couple of occupations I’ve seen described are terrific.

    • Hi, John. I’m so glad you’re liking our newest thesaurus! It’s just getting started, so there’s not much there yet, but here is the current list of entries. New ones go up on (most) Saturdays. Enjoy!
