This time of year, we usually host a spectacular giveaway called Advent Calendar for Writers, and you may have noticed it’s missing this go-around.
I’ll be honest – life’s been hectic. Both my boys had weddings this October (so awesome!), but then a house move and my husband’s major surgery followed (he’s recovering well, thank goodness!). Needless to say, my mental tank is pretty low, so we made the call to skip Advent this year.
But are we skipping the gift-giving? Heck, no!
If you’re interested in how to hack a reader’s brain using psychology and would like to know how a show-don’t-tell mindset steers you to opportunities to do more with your description, then this free webinar is for you!
Unfortunately because of some technical difficulties, it’s just me yammering away, but Becca’s there in spirit. We hope you find this dip into our process helpful, and that you walk away with ideas on how our thesauruses can help you write stronger characters and scenes. So, have a watch, and enjoy:
Psst! This is a limited time webinar, so make sure to view the recording before January 8th. Happy holidays!

I am so glad you found this webinar helpful, James. And thank you for sharing it with your writing communities. 🙂
To echo what @Joy V Spicer said, congratulations on the two weddings of you sons! Hope they both have long, happy, loving marriages. And also best wishes to you and your husband. So good that he’s recovering well. I hope you take some well-deserved time off now and relax a bit after your whirlwind year.
Thanks so much for this great webinar and thanks to both you and Becca for all the continued hard work you both put in to better all of our lives and story craftings. Have a merry Christmas and see y’all in the new year!
Aw, thanks so much, DV. I tell you, seeing your kids marry the best people ever is one of the best things ever. And to see it happen twice in a month…so awesome. And very glad hubby’s on the mend, too. 🙂 Merry Christmas to you, too! 🙂
I bought the Emotions Thesaurus and it is most helpful. I’m writing a sequel to my first published book, and show don’t tell is uppermost in my mind. The main character is well established and her emotional wound identified. I listened to the Webinar and got more helpful information. Never thought of her wanting to a nurse from a little girl as perhaps she wasn’t accepted (taken care of) by her father and he left the family when she was 15. She takes excellent care of her patients and craves acceptance. She has a supportive, loving doctor husband and still feels unworthy. He will leave her, he will get sick & tired of her and want more in his life. Like her father did. The doctor is steadfast. Her rock of Gibraltar. Thanks for making me think further into the character arc. 📚🎶 Christine
Very glad you connected the dots from your character’s past trauma to her choice in career, her desire to please others, and her determination to supply others with the care and support she herself did not have. I think readers will also see how these pieces fit together, and it will help them better understand her and why she does the things she does. Great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed the webinar! Happy holidays!
What a great webinar. So helpful. Thank you.
Congratulations to your son’s and their wives, and I am pleased your husband is recovering well.
Oh, I am so glad you liked it, V.M.! And thank you. I’m happy to have him home. 🙂
Angela, CONGRATULATIONS!! Two weddings in a month, how wonderful! Best wishes to both your sons and their wives. Glad to hear your husband’s recovering well. Goodness me, sounds like quite the emotional rollercoaster, hope you’re keeping well yourself.
Thank you for the webinar, haven’t watched it yet, saving that for later after chores.
Wishing you and Becca a blessed Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
Thank you so much, Joy. Rollercoaster is right – what a year. I’m hoping maybe next year is a little more boring, haha. I hope you find this webinar really helpful, and happy holidays!!
